I need advice. I was scammed by binary options website 1 year ago. Could I use paypal to refund my money?

Disclaimer:I am sorry, turns out I haven't used paypal to transfer money to this broker. At the time there was a limit in my credit card so I tried but haven't been able to.(I transferred with bank account) Now I remember. Since people asked this:the name of the broker is traderush. The amount of scamming they do is mind blowing. I will explain in more details in comments.
I heard people getting refunded on paypal over small things.
One binary company completely fuck** me over and tried to do it again later. They do not disclose full rules of their offers, than talk you into placing trades, than they say that you have to sign this and that and then it turns into casino gambling bonuses.
I am in college and I know I am pretty stupid. It caused me depression since it was the money my family gave me to start my own life and I only searched for ways to make more out of it. Now I have to lie every time I get asked about the money because my family is getting divorced and I don't want to burden them with even more problems.
I even told this to the person who talked me into the scam. I can't believe such freaking heartless bastards exist in the world.
What would happen if I would try to refund part of the money with paypal? Would I get sued? I can't fight these big companies I won't even try.
edit: grammar, also updated a bit.

No gods, no kings, only NOPE - or divining the future with options flows. [Part 3: Hedge Winding, Unwinding, and the NOPE]

Hello friends!
We're on the last post of this series ("A Gentle Introduction to NOPE"), where we get to use all the Big Boy Concepts (TM) we've discussed in the prior posts and put them all together. Some words before we begin:
  1. This post will be massively theoretical, in the sense that my own speculation and inferences will be largely peppered throughout the post. Are those speculations right? I think so, or I wouldn't be posting it, but they could also be incorrect.
  2. I will briefly touch on using the NOPE this slide, but I will make a secondary post with much more interesting data and trends I've observed. This is primarily for explaining what NOPE is and why it potentially works, and what it potentially measures.
My advice before reading this is to glance at my prior posts, and either read those fully or at least make sure you understand the tl;drs:
https://www.reddit.com/thecorporation/collection/27dc72ad-4e78-44cd-a788-811cd666e32a
Depending on popular demand, I will also make a last-last post called FAQ, where I'll tabulate interesting questions you guys ask me in the comments!
---
So a brief recap before we begin.
Market Maker ("Mr. MM"): An individual or firm who makes money off the exchange fees and bid-ask spread for an asset, while usually trying to stay neutral about the direction the asset moves.
Delta-gamma hedging: The process Mr. MM uses to stay neutral when selling you shitty OTM options, by buying/selling shares (usually) of the underlying as the price moves.
Law of Surprise [Lily-ism]: Effectively, the expected profit of an options trade is zero for both the seller and the buyer.
Random Walk: A special case of a deeper probability probability called a martingale, which basically models stocks or similar phenomena randomly moving every step they take (for stocks, roughly every millisecond). This is one of the most popular views of how stock prices move, especially on short timescales.
Future Expected Payoff Function [Lily-ism]: This is some hidden function that every market participant has about an asset, which more or less models all the possible future probabilities/values of the assets to arrive at a "fair market price". This is a more generalized case of a pricing model like Black-Scholes, or DCF.
Counter-party: The opposite side of your trade (if you sell an option, they buy it; if you buy an option, they sell it).
Price decoherence ]Lily-ism]: A more generalized notion of IV Crush, price decoherence happens when instead of the FEPF changing gradually over time (price formation), the FEPF rapidly changes, due usually to new information being added to the system (e.g. Vermin Supreme winning the 2020 election).

One of the most popular gambling events for option traders to play is earnings announcements, and I do owe the concept of NOPE to hypothesizing specifically about the behavior of stock prices at earnings. Much like a black hole in quantum mechanics, most conventional theories about how price should work rapidly break down briefly before, during, and after ER, and generally experienced traders tend to shy away from playing earnings, given their similar unpredictability.
Before we start: what is NOPE? NOPE is a funny backronym from Net Options Pricing Effect, which in its most basic sense, measures the impact option delta has on the underlying price, as compared to share price. When I first started investigating NOPE, I called it OPE (options pricing effect), but NOPE sounds funnier.
The formula for it is dead simple, but I also have no idea how to do LaTeX on reddit, so this is the best I have:

https://preview.redd.it/ais37icfkwt51.png?width=826&format=png&auto=webp&s=3feb6960f15a336fa678e945d93b399a8e59bb49
Since I've already encountered this, put delta in this case is the absolute value (50 delta) to represent a put. If you represent put delta as a negative (the conventional way), do not subtract it; add it.
To keep this simple for the non-mathematically minded: the NOPE today is equal to the weighted sum (weighted by volume) of the delta of every call minus the delta of every put for all options chains extending from today to infinity. Finally, we then divide that number by the # of shares traded today in the market session (ignoring pre-market and post-market, since options cannot trade during those times).
Effectively, NOPE is a rough and dirty way to approximate the impact of delta-gamma hedging as a function of share volume, with us hand-waving the following factors:
  1. To keep calculations simple, we assume that all counter-parties are hedged. This is obviously not true, especially for idiots who believe theta ganging is safe, but holds largely true especially for highly liquid tickers, or tickers will designated market makers (e.g. any ticker in the NASDAQ, for instance).
  2. We assume that all hedging takes place via shares. For SPY and other products tracking the S&P, for instance, market makers can actually hedge via futures or other options. This has the benefit for large positions of not moving the underlying price, but still makes up a fairly small amount of hedges compared to shares.

Winding and Unwinding

I briefly touched on this in a past post, but two properties of NOPE seem to apply well to EER-like behavior (aka any binary catalyst event):
  1. NOPE measures sentiment - In general, the options market is seen as better informed than share traders (e.g. insiders trade via options, because of leverage + easier to mask positions). Therefore, a heavy call/put skew is usually seen as a bullish sign, while the reverse is also true.
  2. NOPE measures system stability
I'm not going to one-sentence explain #2, because why say in one sentence what I can write 1000 words on. In short, NOPE intends to measure sensitivity of the system (the ticker) to disruption. This makes sense, when you view it in the context of delta-gamma hedging. When we assume all counter-parties are hedged, this means an absolutely massive amount of shares get sold/purchased when the underlying price moves. This is because of the following:
a) Assume I, Mr. MM sell 1000 call options for NKLA 25C 10/23 and 300 put options for NKLA 15p 10/23. I'm just going to make up deltas because it's too much effort to calculate them - 30 delta call, 20 delta put.
This implies Mr. MM needs the following to delta hedge: (1000 call options * 30 shares to buy for each) [to balance out writing calls) - (300 put options * 20 shares to sell for each) = 24,000 net shares Mr. MM needs to acquire to balance out his deltas/be fully neutral.
b) This works well when NKLA is at $20. But what about when it hits $19 (because it only can go down, just like their trucks). Thanks to gamma, now we have to recompute the deltas, because they've changed for both the calls (they went down) and for the puts (they went up).
Let's say to keep it simple that now my calls are 20 delta, and my puts are 30 delta. From the 24,000 net shares, Mr. MM has to now have:
(1000 call options * 20 shares to have for each) - (300 put options * 30 shares to sell for each) = 11,000 shares.
Therefore, with a $1 shift in price, now to hedge and be indifferent to direction, Mr. MM has to go from 24,000 shares to 11,000 shares, meaning he has to sell 13,000 shares ASAP, or take on increased risk. Now, you might be saying, "13,000 shares seems small. How would this disrupt the system?"
(This process, by the way, is called hedge unwinding)
It won't, in this example. But across thousands of MMs and millions of contracts, this can - especially in highly optioned tickers - make up a substantial fraction of the net flow of shares per day. And as we know from our desk example, the buying or selling of shares directly changes the price of the stock itself.
This, by the way, is why the NOPE formula takes the shape it does. Some astute readers might notice it looks similar to GEX, which is not a coincidence. GEX however replaces daily volume with open interest, and measures gamma over delta, which I did not find good statistical evidence to support, especially for earnings.
So, with our example above, why does NOPE measure system stability? We can assume for argument's sake that if someone buys a share of NKLA, they're fine with moderate price swings (+- $20 since it's NKLA, obviously), and in it for the long/medium haul. And in most cases this is fine - we can own stock and not worry about minor swings in price. But market makers can't* (they can, but it exposes them to risk), because of how delta works. In fact, for most institutional market makers, they have clearly defined delta limits by end of day, and even small price changes require them to rebalance their hedges.
This over the whole market adds up to a lot shares moving, just to balance out your stupid Robinhood YOLOs. While there are some tricks (dark pools, block trades) to not impact the price of the underlying, the reality is that the more options contracts there are on a ticker, the more outsized influence it will have on the ticker's price. This can technically be exactly balanced, if option put delta is equal to option call delta, but never actually ends up being the case. And unlike shares traded, the shares representing the options are more unstable, meaning they will be sold/bought in response to small price shifts. And will end up magnifying those price shifts, accordingly.

NOPE and Earnings

So we have a new shiny indicator, NOPE. What does it actually mean and do?
There's much literature going back to the 1980s that options markets do have some level of predictiveness towards earnings, which makes sense intuitively. Unlike shares markets, where you can continue to hold your share even if it dips 5%, in options you get access to expanded opportunity to make riches... and losses. An options trader betting on earnings is making a risky and therefore informed bet that he or she knows the outcome, versus a share trader who might be comfortable bagholding in the worst case scenario.
As I've mentioned largely in comments on my prior posts, earnings is a special case because, unlike popular misconceptions, stocks do not go up and down solely due to analyst expectations being meet, beat, or missed. In fact, stock prices move according to the consensus market expectation, which is a function of all the participants' FEPF on that ticker. This is why the price moves so dramatically - even if a stock beats, it might not beat enough to justify the high price tag (FSLY); even if a stock misses, it might have spectacular guidance or maybe the market just was assuming it would go bankrupt instead.
To look at the impact of NOPE and why it may play a role in post-earnings-announcement immediate price moves, let's review the following cases:
  1. Stock Meets/Exceeds Market Expectations (aka price goes up) - In the general case, we would anticipate post-ER market participants value the stock at a higher price, pushing it up rapidly. If there's a high absolute value of NOPE on said ticker, this should end up magnifying the positive move since:
a) If NOPE is high negative - This means a ton of put buying, which means a lot of those puts are now worthless (due to price decoherence). This means that to stay delta neutral, market makers need to close out their sold/shorted shares, buying them, and pushing the stock price up.
b) If NOPE is high positive - This means a ton of call buying, which means a lot of puts are now worthless (see a) but also a lot of calls are now worth more. This means that to stay delta neutral, market makers need to close out their sold/shorted shares AND also buy more shares to cover their calls, pushing the stock price up.
2) Stock Meets/Misses Market Expectations (aka price goes down) - Inversely to what I mentioned above, this should push to the stock price down, fairly immediately. If there's a high absolute value of NOPE on said ticker, this should end up magnifying the negative move since:
a) If NOPE is high negative - This means a ton of put buying, which means a lot of those puts are now worth more, and a lot of calls are now worth less/worth less (due to price decoherence). This means that to stay delta neutral, market makers need to sell/short more shares, pushing the stock price down.
b) If NOPE is high positive - This means a ton of call buying, which means a lot of calls are now worthless (see a) but also a lot of puts are now worth more. This means that to stay delta neutral, market makers need to sell even more shares to keep their calls and puts neutral, pushing the stock price down.
---
Based on the above two cases, it should be a bit more clear why NOPE is a measure of sensitivity to system perturbation. While we previously discussed it in the context of magnifying directional move, the truth is it also provides a directional bias to our "random" walk. This is because given a price move in the direction predicted by NOPE, we expect it to be magnified, especially in situations of price decoherence. If a stock price goes up right after an ER report drops, even based on one participant deciding to value the stock higher, this provides a runaway reaction which boosts the stock price (due to hedging factors as well as other participants' behavior) and inures it to drops.

NOPE and NOPE_MAD

I'm going to gloss over this section because this is more statistical methods than anything interesting. In general, if you have enough data, I recommend using NOPE_MAD over NOPE. While NOPE in theory represents a "real" quantity (net option delta over net share delta), NOPE_MAD (the median absolute deviation of NOPE) does not. NOPE_MAD simply answecompare the following:
  1. How exceptional is today's NOPE versus historic baseline (30 days prior)?
  2. How do I compare two tickers' NOPEs effectively (since some tickers, like TSLA, have a baseline positive NOPE, because Elon memes)? In the initial stages, we used just a straight numerical threshold (let's say NOPE >= 20), but that quickly broke down. NOPE_MAD aims to detect anomalies, because anomalies in general give you tendies.
I might add the formula later in Mathenese, but simply put, to find NOPE_MAD you do the following:
  1. Calculate today's NOPE score (this can be done end of day or intraday, with the true value being EOD of course)
  2. Calculate the end of day NOPE scores on the ticker for the previous 30 trading days
  3. Compute the median of the previous 30 trading days' NOPEs
  4. From the median, find the 30 days' median absolute deviation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Median_absolute_deviation)
  5. Find today's deviation as compared to the MAD calculated by: [(today's NOPE) - (median NOPE of last 30 days)] / (median absolute deviation of last 30 days)
This is usually reported as sigma (σ), and has a few interesting properties:
  1. The mean of NOPE_MAD for any ticker is almost exactly 0.
  2. [Lily's Speculation's Speculation] NOPE_MAD acts like a spring, and has a tendency to reverse direction as a function of its magnitude. No proof on this yet, but exploring it!

Using the NOPE to predict ER

So the last section was a lot of words and theory, and a lot of what I'm mentioning here is empirically derived (aka I've tested it out, versus just blabbered).
In general, the following holds true:
  1. 3 sigma NOPE_MAD tends to be "the threshold": For very low NOPE_MAD magnitudes (+- 1 sigma), it's effectively just noise, and directionality prediction is low, if not non-existent. It's not exactly like 3 sigma is a play and 2.9 sigma is not a play; NOPE_MAD accuracy increases as NOPE_MAD magnitude (either positive or negative) increases.
  2. NOPE_MAD is only useful on highly optioned tickers: In general, I introduce another parameter for sifting through "candidate" ERs to play: option volume * 100/share volume. When this ends up over let's say 0.4, NOPE_MAD provides a fairly good window into predicting earnings behavior.
  3. NOPE_MAD only predicts during the after-market/pre-market session: I also have no idea if this is true, but my hunch is that next day behavior is mostly random and driven by market movement versus earnings behavior. NOPE_MAD for now only predicts direction of price movements right between the release of the ER report (AH or PM) and the ending of that market session. This is why in general I recommend playing shares, not options for ER (since you can sell during the AH/PM).
  4. NOPE_MAD only predicts direction of price movement: This isn't exactly true, but it's all I feel comfortable stating given the data I have. On observation of ~2700 data points of ER-ticker events since Mar 2019 (SPY 500), I only so far feel comfortable predicting whether stock price goes up (>0 percent difference) or down (<0 price difference). This is +1 for why I usually play with shares.
Some statistics:
#0) As a baseline/null hypothesis, after ER on the SPY500 since Mar 2019, 50-51% price movements in the AH/PM are positive (>0) and ~46-47% are negative (<0).
#1) For NOPE_MAD >= +3 sigma, roughly 68% of price movements are positive after earnings.
#2) For NOPE_MAD <= -3 sigma, roughly 29% of price movements are positive after earnings.
#3) When using a logistic model of only data including NOPE_MAD >= +3 sigma or NOPE_MAD <= -3 sigma, and option/share vol >= 0.4 (around 25% of all ERs observed), I was able to achieve 78% predictive accuracy on direction.

Caveats/Read This

Like all models, NOPE is wrong, but perhaps useful. It's also fairly new (I started working on it around early August 2020), and in fact, my initial hypothesis was exactly incorrect (I thought the opposite would happen, actually). Similarly, as commenters have pointed out, the timeline of data I'm using is fairly compressed (since Mar 2019), and trends and models do change. In fact, I've noticed significantly lower accuracy since the coronavirus recession (when I measured it in early September), but I attribute this mostly to a smaller date range, more market volatility, and honestly, dumber option traders (~65% accuracy versus nearly 80%).
My advice so far if you do play ER with the NOPE method is to use it as following:
  1. Buy/short shares approximately right when the market closes before ER. Ideally even buying it right before the earnings report drops in the AH session is not a bad idea if you can.
  2. Sell/buy to close said shares at the first sign of major weakness (e.g. if the NOPE predicted outcome is incorrect).
  3. Sell/buy to close shares even if it is correct ideally before conference call, or by the end of the after-market/pre-market session.
  4. Only play tickers with high NOPE as well as high option/share vol.
---
In my next post, which may be in a few days, I'll talk about potential use cases for SPY and intraday trends, but I wanted to make sure this wasn't like 7000 words by itself.
Cheers.

4. Discussion

Child Status

This section solely existed to sift the childfree from the fencesitters and the non childfree in order to get answers only from the childfree. Childfree, as it is defined in the subreddit, is "I do not have children nor want to have them in any capacity (biological, adopted, fostered, step- or other) at any point in the future." 70.29% of participants actually identify as childfree, slightly up from the 2019 survey, where 68.5% of participants identified as childfree. This is suprising in reflection of the overall reputation of the subreddit across reddit, where the subreddit is often described as an "echo chamber".

General Demographics

The demographics remain largely consistent with the 2019 survey. However, the 2019 survey collected demographic responses from all participants in the survey, removing those who did not identify as childfree when querying subreddit specific questions, while the 2020 survey only collected responses from people who identified as childfree. This must be considered when comparing results.
82.25% of the participants are under 35, compared with 85% of the subreddit in the 2019 survey. A slight downward trend is noted compared over the last two years suggesting the userbase may be getting older on average. 73.04% of the subreddit identify as female, compared with 71.54% in the 2019 survey. Again, when compared with the 2019 survey, this suggests a slight increase in the number of members who identify as female. This is in contrast to the overall membership of Reddit, estimated at 74% male according to Reddit's Wikipedia page [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reddit#Users_and_moderators]. The ratio of members who identify as heterosexual remained consistent, from 54.89% in the 2019 survey to 55.20% in the 2020 survey.
Ethnicity wise, 77% of members identified as primarily Caucasian, consistent with the 2019 results. While the ethnicities noted to be missing in the 2019 survey have been included in the 2020 survey, some users noted the difficulty of responding when fitting multiple ethnicities, and this will be addressed in the 2021 survey.

Education level

As it did in the 2019 survey, this section highlights the stereotype of childfree people as being well educated. 2.64% of participants did not complete high school, which is a slight decrease from the 2019 survey, where 4% of participants did not graduate high school. However, 6.02% of participants are under 18, compared with 8.22% in the 2019 survey. 55% of participants have a bachelors degree or higher, while an additional 23% have completed "some college or university".
At the 2020 survey, the highest percentage of responses under the: What is your degree/major? question fell under "I don't have a degree or a major" (20.12%). Arts and Humanities, and Computer Science have overtaken Health Sciences and Engineering as the two most popular majors. However, the list of majors was pared down to general fields of study rather than highly specific degree majors to account for the significant diversity in majors studied by the childfree community, which may account for the different results.

Career and Finances

The highest percentage of participants at 21.61% listed themselves as trained professionals.
One of the stereotypes of the childfree is of wealth. However this is not demonstrated in the survey results. 70.95% of participants earn under $60,000 USD per annum, while 87.85% earn under $90,000 per annum. 21.37% are earning under $15,000 per annum. 1065 participants, or 21.10% chose not to disclose this information. It is possible that this may have skewed the results if a significant proportion of these people were our high income earners, but impossible to explore.
A majority of our participants work between 30 and 50 hours per week (75.65%) which is slightly increased from the 2019 survey, where 71.2% of participants worked between 30 and 50 hours per week.

Location

The location responses are largely similar to the 2019 survey with a majority of participants living in a suburban and urban area. 86.24% of participants in the 2020 survey live in urban and suburban regions, with 86.7% of participants living in urban and suburban regions in the 2019 survey. There is likely a multifactorial reason for this, encompassing the younger, educated skew of participants and the easier access to universities and employment, and the fact that a majority of the population worldwide localises to urban centres. There may be an element of increased progressive social viewpoints and identities in urban regions, however this would need to be explored further from a sociological perspective to draw any definitive conclusions.
A majority of our participants (57.47%) were born in the USA. The United Kingdom (7.6%), Canada (7.17%), Australia (3.58%) and Germany (2.17%) encompass the next 4 most popular responses. This is largely consistent with the responses in the 2019 survey.

Religion and Spirituality

For the 2020 survey Christianity (the most popular result in 2019) was split into it's major denominations, Catholic, Protestant, Anglican, among others. This appears to be a linguistic/location difference that caused a lot of confusion among some participants. However, Catholicism at 30.76% remained the most popular choice for the religion participants were raised in. However, of our participant's current faith, Aetheism at 36.23% was the most popular choice. A majority of 78.02% listed their current religion as Aetheist, no religious or spiritual beliefs, or Agnostic.
A majority of participants (61%) rated religion as "not at all influential" to the childfree choice. This is consistent with the 2019 survey where 62.8% rated religion as "not at all influential". Despite the high percentage of participants who identify as aetheist or agnostic, this does not appear to be related to or have an impact on the childfree choice.

Romantic and Sexual Life

60.19% of our participants are in a relationship at the time of the survey. This is consistent with the 2019 survey, where 60.7% of our participants were in a relationship. A notable proportion of our participants are listed as single and not looking (25.81%) which is consistent with the 2019 survey. Considering the frequent posts seeking dating advice as a childfree person, it is surprising that such a high proportion of the participants are not actively seeking out a relationship. Unsurprisingly 90.13% of our participants would not consider dating someone with children. 84% of participants with partners of some kind have at least one childfree partner. This is consistent with the often irreconcilable element of one party desiring children and the other wishing to abstain from having children.

Childhood and Family Life

Overall, the participants skew towards a happier childhood.

Sterilisation

While just under half of our participants wish to be sterilised, 45.21%, only 12.2% have been successful in achieving sterilisation. This is likely due to overarching resistance from the medical profession however other factors such as the logistical elements of surgery and the cost may also contribute. There is a slight increase from the percentage of participants sterilised in the 2019 survey (11.7%). 29.33% of participants do not wish to be or need to be sterilised suggesting a partial element of satisfaction from temporary birth control methods or non-necessity of contraception due to their current lifestyle practices. Participants who indicated that they do not wish to be sterilised or haven't achieved sterilisation were excluded from the percentages where necessary in this section.
Of the participants who did achieve sterilisation, a majority began the search between 19 and 29, with the highest proportion being in the 19-24 age group (35.85%) This is a marked increase from the 2019 survey where 27.3% of people who started the search were between 19-24. This may be due to increased education about permanent contraception or possibly due to an increase in instability around world events.
The majority of participants who sought out and were successful at achieving sterilisation, were however in the 25-29 age group (37.9%). This is consistent with the 2019 survey results.
The time taken between seeking out sterilisation and achieving it continues to increase, with only 50.46% of participants achieving sterilisation in under 3 months. This is a decline from the number of participants who achieved sterilisation in 3 months in the 2019 survey (58.5%). A potential cause of this decrease is to Covid-19 shutdowns in the medical industry leading to an increase in procedure wait times. The proportion of participants who have had one or more doctors refuse to perform the procedure has stayed consistent between the two surveys.

Childfreedom

The main reasons for people choosing the childfree lifestyle are a lack of interest towards parenthood and an aversion towards children which is consistent with the 2019 survey. Of the people surveyed 67.06% are pet owners or involved in a pet's care, suggesting that this lack of interest towards parenthood does not necessarily mean a lack of interest in all forms of caretaking. The community skews towards a dislike of children overall which correlates well with the 87.81% of users choosing "no, I do not have, did not use to have and will not have a job that makes me heavily interact with children on a daily basis" in answer to, "do you have a job that heavily makes you interact with children on a daily basis?". This is an increase from the 2019 survey.
A vast majority of the subreddit identifes as pro-choice (95.5%), a slight increase from the 2019 results. This is likely due to a high level of concern about bodily autonomy and forced birth/parenthood. However only 55.93% support financial abortion, aka for the non-pregnant person in a relationship to sever all financial and parental ties with a child. This is a marked decrease from the 2019 results, where 70% of participants supported financial abortion.
Most of our users realised that did not want children young. 58.72% of participants knew they did not want children by the age of 18, with 95.37% of users realising this by age 30. This correlates well with the age distribution of participants. Despite this early realisation of our childfree stance, 80.59% of participants have been "bingoed" at some stage in their lives.

The Subreddit

Participants who identify as childfree were asked about their interaction with and preferences with regards to the subreddit at large. Participants who do not meet our definition of being childfree were excluded from these questions.
By and large our participants were lurkers (72.32%). Our participants were divided on their favourite flairs with 38.92% selecting "I have no favourite". The next most favourite flair was "Rant", at 16.35%. Our participants were similarly divided on their least favourite flair, with 63.40% selecting "I have no least favourite". In light of these results the flairs on offer will remain as they have been through 2019.
With regards to "lecturing" posts, this is defined as a post which seeks to re-educate the childfree on the practices, attitudes and values of the community, particularly with regards to attitudes towards parenting and children, whether at home or in the community. A commonly used descriptor is "tone policing". A small minority of the survey participants (3.36%) selected "yes" to allowing all lectures, however 33.54% responded "yes" to allowing polite, respectful lectures only. In addition, 45.10% of participants indicated that they were not sure if lectures should be allowed. Due to the ambiguity of responses, lectures will continue to be not allowed and removed.
Many of our participants (36.87%) support the use of terms such as breeder, mombie/moo, daddict/duh on the subreddit, with a further 32.63% supporting use of these terms in context of bad parents only. This is a slight drop from the 2019 survey. In response to this use of the above and similar terms to describe parents remains permitted on this subreddit. However, we encourage users to keep the use of these terms to bad parents only.
44.33% of users support the use of terms to describe children such as crotchfruit on the subreddit, a drop from 55.3% last year. A further 25.80% of users supporting the use of this and similar terms in context of bad children only, an increase from 17.42% last year. In response to this use of the above and similar terms to describe children remains permitted on this subreddit.
69.17% of participants answered yes to allowing parents to post, provided they stay respectful. In response to this, parent posts will continue to be allowed on the subreddit. As for regret posts, which were to be revisited in this year's survey, only 9.5% of participants regarded them as their least favourite post. As such they will continue to stay allowed.
64% of participants support under 18's who are childfree participating in the subreddit with a further 19.59% allowing under 18's to post dependent on context. Therefore we will continue to allow under 18's that stay within the overall Reddit age requirement.
There was divide among participants as to whether "newbie" questions should be removed. An even spread was noted among participants who selected remove and those who selected to leave them as is. We have therefore decided to leave them as is. 73.80% of users selected "yes, in their own post, with their own "Leisure" flair" to the question, "Should posts about pets, travel, jetskis, etc be allowed on the sub?" Therefore we will continue to allow these posts provided they are appropriately flaired.

5. Conclusion

Thank you to our participants who contributed to the survey. This has been an unusual and difficult year for many people. Stay safe, and stay childfree.

Settings and Tweaks for increasing (CPU) Performance

Hi Hunters!
After upgrading my GPU to a used RTX 2080 TI, I noticed my game being severely bottlenecked by my old and trusty i7 6700k (even when playing 1440p).
I noticed this by looking at the detailed performance statistics and the CPU/GPU usage throughout various locations on the map.
To optimize this I read through a guide here on reddit by u/MitchDangus (https://www.reddit.com/HuntShowdown/comments/cxldde/a_few_tweaks_to_boost_fps_by_1540_frames/) and I would like to share my findings.
Mitch suggested to turn all graphic settings down to the minimum and adjust them later.
I personally still want the game to look good, so I tested all the settings individually by looking at their impact on average FPS, CPU/GPU frame times and overall CPU/GPU usage.

Settings to consider

Window Mode: Fullscreen
Little difference between windowed, fullscreen windowed und borderless. Had about 2-4 more fps in fullscreen
Object Quality: Medium
Biggest change in performance, got about 10-15 additional fps when setting from "High" to "Low", cpu usage decreased by about 10 percent. Will have an impact on how far objects will be rendered in high quality. Some objects might only appear when you are < 50 meters away. "Medium" might be a good compromise between quality and performance (5-7 additional fps).
Texture Quality: High
Small impact on VRAM usage and minimal impact on average fps. No noticable toll on the CPU, should therefore be set to "High" for better quality.
Lighting Quality & Shadow Quality: Low
These two settings had a noticable impact on GPU usage when set to "High" instead of "Low" (about 25% increase in GPU usage). This might not be noticable while you are being CPU bottlenecked. However, when you reach an area in the game which has less toll on CPU performance, you might now be limited by your GPU. I set both to "Low" because the visual quality was still very good (IMHO).
Performance Stats: None or Basic
Interestingly, having Performance Stats on "Detailed" reduced my average performance by about 5 fps. Would therefore use detailed statistics only for debugging.
V-Sync: Off
With V-Sync enabled, my average game performance decreased by about 5 fps. If you are using a G-Sync or FreeSync monitor you should disable V-Sync anyways.
Apparently, the last part is outdated advice:
https://blurbusters.com/gsync/gsync101-input-lag-tests-and-settings/14/
Thanks u/Duudurhrhdhwsjjd !
All other settings did not have an observable impact on my game's performance. But feel free to experiment. I for myself went into the Trials mode and spawned at Port Reeker (first map, 3rd mission). I chose this sport because there are a lot of structures tightly packed which had a strong impact on my CPU performance. Make sure to find a location with a viewing angle that you can find and reproduce again and again.

Windows Shenanigans

Fullscreen Optimizations
I also applied Mitch's recommendation to disable fullscreen optimizations and noticed that it did indeed increase my performance by about 10-12 fps. Mitch has a detailed description on how to disable this option. To summarize it quickly: Locate the HuntGame.exe binary in "PATH_TO_STEAM_LIBRARY\steamapps\common\Hunt Showdown\bin\win_x64\HuntGame.exe", right click, "Properties", "Compatibility" and select the checkbox "Disable fullscreen optimizations".
Administrator Mode
For fun I tried running Hunt in Administrator Mode to see what happens and - I shit you not - increased my average performance by about 20 frames per second! Honestly, I don't know why this increased CPU performance by such a remarkable margin, but it definitely did. Of course there are always security considerations that come to mind when running programs in Administrator Mode. But I for myself don't fear this having any consequences in case of Hunt Showdown.
If you want to always run Hunt in Administrator Mode, you can repeat the previous steps and additionally to selecting the checkbox "Disable fullscreen optimizations", also enable the flag for running the program as administrator.
Interestingly enough, when running Hunt as Administrator, disabling fullscreen optimizations did not seem to have any further impact on performance. But this might also be because I am now hitting a GPU limit in some cases.
Before:
CPU usage: 90-95%
GPU usage: 65-70%
Performance in cpu intensive scene: 123 fps
After:
CPU usage: 80-85%

Should we (21M&F) get our niece (14non-binary) chest binders?

All names are changed.
Background: I (F21) have been with my boyfriend, James, (M21) for 4 years. James’ sister, Allison (36F) is married with two kids. Her oldest child, Jordan, is 14 and recently came out to me and James as non-binary. (Currently using they/them pronouns but still likes the term niece more than nibling.) They said they feel safe coming out to us because we're both queer. Jordan asked us to keep their identity away from the rest of the family because Allison is very openly transphobic. The rest of the family isn’t as bad as Allison, but they aren’t great either.
Jordan can cope while at home by wearing a bra and extra baggy shirts, but Allison doesn’t allow them to wear those baggy clothes to school because she feels like it makes her look like a bad mom. Jordan describes it feeling unmanageable to go to school in their regular fitting shirts. They were diagnosed with anxiety two years ago and have been blaming the panic attacks they’ve been having on their general anxiety. Jordan's chest got significantly bigger this summer and the panic attacks got worse when going back to school this year. When Allison finally pressed harder about what was wrong they said it was anxiety about getting and bringing home COVID to high-risk family. They were transitioned fully online, but Jordan knows this is only a short term solution.
Jordan has tried to use ace bandages to bind even after I explained why that’s dangerous because they said that they just can’t bear it when their mom forces them to wear non-baggy shirts.
Where I need advice: I know where to buy safe binders and James and I have been looking at getting a few for Jordan. We aren’t sure if getting binders is a good idea or not, though.
We’re concerned for their well being if their identity is found out. They will likely be kicked out and disowned. James and I don’t have the means to take them in if this happens as we currently live with James’ parents as we finish university. (We help with bills, but can’t afford school and completely independent living.) Also James and I already have an extremely strained relationship with Allison. If it’s found out that we knew about Jordan’s identity and supplied them with binders it will cause another massive fight. It would cost Jordan their communication with us completely if Allison didn’t kick them out.
On the other hand, we’re concerned for their physical well being if they don’t stop using ace bandages and their emotional well being if they continue to have panic attacks at the frequency they have been.
James and I would like more people, especially people who are more familiar with what it feels like to be in Jordan’s shoes, to weigh in on whether or not we should get them the binders. The only alternative we can this of is trying to just dissuade them from using ace bandages and trying to get Allison to let them wear baggy shirts when they have to leave the house.
TL;DR I'm in the position to give my dysphoric 14 year old niece a set of binders, but their parent is transphobic. There are bad outcomes if they don't get binders due to unsafe binding and panic attacks. Also bad outcomes if the binders get them found out due to high chance of being kicked out and disowned. Need help weighing pros and cons.
EDIT: Thanks for the advice! Opting for sports bras instead of binders because I think that will be the safest option for them. I will also suggest the other clothing tips to them. Also thank you for the silver kind stranger. :)

Why I created a package and project manager for C (in Rust ofc !)

A few months ago, I was wondering why we hoard Makefiles and why it is so painful to use an external library in a C project.
So I had this idea : Creating a project manager & build tool for the C programming language.
I started to write a piece of code in C and it was not functionning properly (Cause I'm one of the worst C developers in this world) but i continued 'till we cannot run that thing.
At the same time, I was learning Rust ; so, I decided to try to rewrite the whole project in that language.
After a few weeks of rewriting, I had a correct product. The 08/10/2020, Wanager 1.0 was released. It had only a few features : project creation and reinitializing, project build and run and header creation.
At that point, someone called Lockeer told me that it will be cool if we can manage libraries.
So I wrote a simple system to install libraries hosted on my vps, with a submission system based on mailing. It was working, but limited because of vps bandwidth and the complexity of submiting by email.
So SuperFola poped up :
https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/61330081/96449113-aa418a80-1214-11eb-97e8-32c7afd86ff8.png
At first time, I decided, as he advised me, to use the github api that produces a tar archive of the repo. I stucked on that for weeks because the command I was running was producing a corrupted file.
After raging on that problem, I realised that I'll gain some portability and time with cloning directly with a git command.
It worked good, so, everything is fine !
But Il_totore opened an issue :
https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/61330081/96449715-8df21d80-1215-11eb-9a22-588c77ce9870.png
So I made python support for build scripts with minimal version of 3.5.x and allowed path specification.
After that, on his advice, I made kind of Python API to have nice build scripts and it produced that :
```py from wngbuild import * # Import all from wngbuild module
build = BuildProfile(files="src/*.c",output="build/custom/prog.exe" ) # setup a build profile that will compile all files in src/ and place the binary in build/custom/prog.exe build.cc = "C:\MinGW\bin\gcc.exe" # Setup the compiler (optional, by default "gcc") build.flags = "-W -Wall -Werror -Wextra" # Setup the flags that the command will be run with (optional)
build.run() # Run the compilation command build.runOutput() # Run the binary produced by the compilation command (Will raise an error if the compilation command fails) ```
https://github.com/Wmanage/wng
It is still WIP, there are loads of features that I can add to it but I will be more very happy to answer your questions or help you use it.
Thanks for reading and have a nice day.
Please help me make sense of all this.
Sorry in advance for the following absolutely massive wall of text...
Preface: I am a cis male (?) in a long term (14 year) hetero relationship. I'm trying to keep certain of these details vague to keep this post sfw since the story wouldn't really make sense with them completely omitted, so sorry if I do cross that line.
A week ago I was absolutely certain that 100% straight. I had a few kinks that I just chalked up to being secure enough with my self to ignore whatever gendeorientation stereotypes are attached to them and enjoy them for what they were.
The following is kinda the story / (admittedly very short) journey I've been on realizing that can't be true.
My wife and I were having a discussion before bed and trying to give perspective about something she's feeling, she says something to the effect of, "... it's like how I truly think you'd enjoy sex with a real guy," (as opposed to using toys). I immediately shot her a look of incredulity and gave her a skeptical, "Uh... Huh..." She went on into detail that's not appropriate here. The important part is that when she was done, I couldn't argue, she was right—that sounded pretty incredible actually (though I couldn't fully admit that in the moment).
A bit later in the night, she's fallen asleep and I'm wide awake trying to process this revelation. Up to that point I'd never thought of another guy as sexually attractive (as far as I could think), but there was no denying I now had a strong desire for what she described.
Immediately, the analytical part of my brain starts trying to rationalize these thoughts. It's likely not actually direct attraction to guys so much as wanting the sensations that that would come from the sex. But then it's like if I want that feeling and being with a guy is the only way to get that feeling, then wouldn't that mean that I do want to be with a guy? Transitive property of desire or something lol.
I did up fantasizing about being it that night, but had a lot of trouble fully imagining a person. I figured if I can't imagine it, maybe I don't want it? Or maybe I won't let myself. Or maybe I don't know what I like yet? Then I thought about it another way; if I were to go through with being with a guy, what would I want him to look like? With no effort, I was able to rattle off a list of what I'm into.
Finally getting that out feels like I must have given myself permission to feel this way because it was like something clicked in my head and quite suddenly a floodgate of repressed thoughts / emotions I never even knew I was holding back let loose.
Since the, I just been tring to allow myself to actually experience these feelings and attempt to internalize them. It's now clear that these thoughts go back pretty far (funny how that works). I've also noticed the occasional guy catches my eye the same way a woman might. I've continued to indulge in my fantasies, though at this point picturing a whole person is easier. What's more is the fantasies evolved from having things done to me to being a more active participant with a desire to return the favor to this imaginary partner. In this context, many of my kinks aren't kinks but just normal sex, which feels strangely validating.
It's been a few days since that initial chat with my wife. I explain all this to her. She gets this bemused smirk (I think she liked being right), but tries to comfort me. Being the awesome person she is, she tells me how none of that changes how she feels about me, if anything, the openness made me more attractive in her eyes (I really am lucky). She seems pretty convinced I'm actually bi. Seeing that I'm still struggling to internalize it, she puts it this way... "What if I suddenly I was a guy, would you still want to stay with me? Would you still be attracted to me?" To which I reply, "Me back when we got together woulda been very confused. Me now, yeah of course I'd stay with you, it's you the person I'm attracted to." She shrugged, "Maybe that's your answer then. Sounds like bi or pan to me."
I'm at the point where I'm really confused about what this all means, what it says about me, my identity etc. So, again analytical me starts trying to research all these feelings and such. Which is how I found this little corner of reddit actually. I found a bunch of random quizzes (some seem to have science behind them) hoping if not for an answer, at least something to help me understand what I'm feeling. I'm still struggling to internalize everything and even just organize my thoughts. I feel like I'm having a massive identity crisis. I mean, who knows you better than you know yourself? Yet here I am 30 years old knowing something as a core fact of who I am as long as I can remember, only to realize I was wrong. There's just so much swirling around in my head at the moment that I feel like I'm in a bit of a fog. I can't help but wonder maybe I actually was right and maybe these feelings are some sort of of fabrication I've felt compelled to come up with for some unknown reason. I dono, I just feel like a tourist if that makes sense. Then again, I can't fathom getting this far down the rabbit hole if there wasn't some validity. And if there is validity, what does that make me? Judging by how I feel about my wife, I know I'm not gay, but after all this there's no way I'm straight either. Beyond that I'm lost. Bi? Pan? Just curious? Actually a tourist? Looking for attention?
On top of all this, in immersing myself in this topic and trying to find people with similar experiences, it made me start to question my gender too. I mean if I got my sexuality wrong for so long, who's to say I didn't get my gender wrong too? I mean I've always thought of myself as purely a cis male, but there's also always been these desires/feelings to be more feminine (and rarely female) that would almost instinctively get filed away.
When shopping for clothes I often can't help but to envy the options/selection of women's clothing it feels; it often feels more my style. I wish it were more acceptable to mix and match men's and women's clothes as the mood struck. In high school I used to wear eyeliner and paint my nails, but I was an emokid, that was just part of the scene, so I'm not really sure if that factors in. I did put on some eyeliner again today for the first time in years (though I did avoid the raccoon eyes look of high school). It felt nice. Or, a month or so ago, I started shaving my legs (it's a cardinal sin to not have clean shaven legs as a cyclist (rule 33)). After doing so, I felt so much more comfortable (fuck being hairy in the FL heat) that I went and trimmed most of my body hair down to almost nothing. When I was done I felt like I was somehow bettemore content/more correct. Softer. I didn't think much of it at the time past the initial reaction, but now, with context, it feels like maybe it's another piece of this puzzle. Trying to articulate all this I found this post and it resonated deep. I'm satisfied with the bits I've got, I like my hipster beard, but I also want to feel pretty and cute and be "girly" and soft and wear a bit of makeup. Following the advice given to the OP in that thread I took a "cogiati" test. I scored a -155, which is "feminine male" which and summarized as
your internal gender identity to be mostly masculine, [...] There is, however, some indication of a strong feminine side to your being, and this is intrinsic to your constitution.
I guess that's right? Seems like decent summary the above. I mean I could get behind that; and guess that's really the important part isn't it. But then again I lack the familiarity / knowledge to recognize much beyond the binary genders, so I don't know.
I just want to feel like I know myself again. As dumb as it may sound, I think a label might help.
Trial Results: Should we suspend the Simple Questions rule?
tl;dr: probably not, no.
On July 28th, 2020, MFA_Nay asked openly for feedback on the "Simple Questions Rule" and how we as moderators handle content curation on the sub. We were responding feedback of many users who were concerned that the sub was stale and/or they were unable to "ask for advice" on the front page. It's been a while since we've considered test-running the counterfactual to our norm, so it seemed appropriate to give it a shot.
On July 31st, 2020, we officially suspended the rule. We were originally considering doing a month-long trial, but came to the conclusion (based on rapid and strong feedback from many regulars, combined with exasperation on our end) that a week would be quite sufficient.
On August 7th, 2020, we wrapped up the trial and solicited feedback in both comment and survey form.
I don't intend to put too many personal takes up here, and will add them down below as a top level comment, but I did promise you some data and figures, so I will deliver those here.
When evaluating the questionnaire, the goal was to find patterns that would pass reasonable muster. The data are too small and perhaps too biased* for any real power (*though there's a case to be made that the respondents are sufficiently representative of the population we wanted the most feedback from; never underestimate the convenience sample).
Looking at respondents' primary reasons for being on MFA, it seems like most people are here to lurk. I'm surprised by how many people said their reason here is "To Give Advice", and wonder if the question should have instead been split into a binary by combining "To Lurk" and "To Get Advice".
Looking at respondents' time on MFA, the mean/median/mode have been here a couple of years (2-4), and barely 15% report being here less than a year.
Most respondents preferred heavier curation (mean 7.3), and their curation preferences were not associated with their tenure here.
Looking beyond the survey at comment and post frequency, you can see that the volume of posts is driven almost entirely by questions and the comment volume is slowly decreasing but steady.
What does this mean? Well, probably not much. Allowing simple questions does not drastically change the traffic, nor does it seem to make regulars (read: the content creators here) very happy. Multiple have expressed in comments and messages that that they are less inclined to create content, and on a 5-option Likert scale question asking "Did allowing Simple Questions on the frontpage make you more or less likely to create content?", half said "Much less likely", less than 10% said "Somewhat more likely", and I didn't even realize there was a fifth option until I was rereading the question and typing this post, because no one put "Much more likely".
Hello, gay bros, I'm looking for some advice/suggestions on underwear
I want to start out by saying I'm not connected to gay culture whatsoever so this may either come weird or maybe even offensive, but it's not my intention.
I'm non-binary and sometimes I want to wear something a little more feminine, but underwear meant for women doesn't really fit all that well. I saw a post today where a trans woman said she buys underwear by searching up "gay men underwear". Presumably because it fits properly and has cute designs.
I know about some gays wearing jockstraps. Not sure if that's a comfort thing for some people or a sex thing or what. Again, I'm ignorant in this area, which is why I added that bit at the beginning. And I know gay male fashion is sometimes different from straight male fashion, so I'm hoping maybe you guys have some advice on this.
With that being said, I'm looking for briefs with a nice selection of colors or (even better) graphic design. I'm not sure if its because they're uncomfortable or its cause they're out of style or what, but actual regular briefs (not boxer briefs) are super hard to find, besides low quality ones with plain colors. I want something a little cuter.
I don't know if there's any LGBT fashion companies that offer what I'm looking for or if there's just a normal company that have nice looking briefs or what.
If anyone has any company or online store to recommend, I'd love any and all suggestions. Really just any briefs that have some nice design options. Quality is a bonus. Thanks so much.
Hell, I still don't know if this post even makes sense yet. Let me know on that too, bros. I don't want to be ignorant.
Thanks!
EDIT: Thanks for all the responses! You guys were super helpful!
essay tipsssss from a perfect 24 scorer. Also if you have questions I will answer them. GOOD LUCK OCTOBER!!!!!
Hey lovelies, so I made a perfect score on the SAT essay, but I am an embarrassment at everything else, so this is just to say that an essay score doesn’t define you and is overall not as important as it could be. Also this is my own experience, I AM IN NO WAY A WRITING TEACHER, SO PLEASE DON’T COME AT ME IN THE COMMENTS.
My best advice: Write conspiracy theories for every essay
If I had to describe the tone of my writing it would be an academic high on crack.
so buckle up y’all. Also my internationals, I feel ya bc I am not native either- woohoo join the train
Now let’s get down to the actual essay.
My best advice is memorize an essay format because if you are like me and you cry in every section ( I am not even joking) the essay can be a trainwreck of panic, and no one needs that toxic energy in their last section.
So here’s my format:
This is my introduction:
While the narrative of the 21st century human experience has resulted in [problem], the underlying causes are most often unexamined. In the article, “”, the author carefully deals with the underlying reasons for [problem] and overtly advocates for [], and hopes in the end to [ purpose]. While doing so he employs several literary elements, including….
Note about purpose: this is given in the prompt, so all you have to do is reformat it.
Now for the devices and body paragraphs
GO IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER!!!!!!
Pick out three devices:
Now here is the format for these devices:
  1. Word choice
    1. evokes emotions or images
    2. characterizes the subject in a particular way
    3. sets the
    4. cultivate émotions
    5. associate positive or negative connotations with something
  2. Statistics/ Data
    1. indicate a problem
      1. point us towards a bigger issue
    2. make something harder to argue because numbers are perceived as facts, not opinions
    3. to effectively ground the authors argument
    4. to surprise readers
    5. to put a quantity in relation to another and effectively contrast
  3. Appeal to Authority
    1. raise credibility by showing that the author is not the only one who believes in this idea
    2. increase trust by showing that the argument is indeed well researched
    3. gain the same acceptance or authority that the authority figure derives from the reader
    4. establish a precedent that pushes people to act in the way that author wants them to behave
  4. Acknowledges the other side/making concessions
    1. address counterarguments, doubts, or fears that the reader may have
    2. establish common ground
    3. pave the way for new arguments to be made
  5. Analogies/ Comparaisons
    1. allow the reader to understand more complex concepts by connecting them to ones that are much simpler
    2. associate new ideas with prior one
    3. which leads the reader into eventual agreement as if he agreed with a prior idea, it is likely he will agree with the new one
  6. Juxtaposition
    1. significant distinction is highlighted
    2. one option seems better than another
    3. create a binary mentality
  7. challenging assumptions
    1. enables this argument to proceed from a clean slate
    2. dismisses any preconceived ideas or biases that may run counter to his or her argument
  8. Anecdotes
    1. form an emotional bond with the reader through establishing a common ground with the reader
  9. Rhetorical questions
    1. gets the reader to imagine a certain scenario
    2. prods the reader into answering a certain way
    3. lays out common ground or assumptions that the author can build upon
    4. describe certain outcomes that may benefit his argument
  10. Appeal to identity
  11. one that takes advantage of the common values and beliefs of a group
  12. human behaviors that seek belonging
  13. gravitate towards an idea that creates a sense of belonging
  14. Strong directives
  15. using we portrays the reader as being on the same side as the reader
  16. stand in unison
  17. and appeals to sense of belonging
Note about this format:
Devices- I WILL TALK ABT IT MORE LATER BUT IT IS GOOD IF THEY MESH IN TOGETHER YOUR ESSAY WILL SEEM ALMOST MORE PUT TOGETHER
ALSO YOU DON’T ALWAYS WANT TO STICK THE FORMAT FOR THE DEVICES- USE THEM TO GROW AN ARGUMENT AND REALLY BUILD A FOUNDATION
THE FORMAT IS NOT A BE- ALL OR END ALL-YOU CAN CHANGE IT UP
Also strong topic sentences:
Author engages the reader’s interest very early in the article. His use of [element] builds a steady foundation from which he launches his discourse
Without the author’s use of persuasive elements , the article would lose….
How to build strong commentary + get yourself the last points
-This is how I build my sentences- they need to be strong and make sense obviously
explain
The implication is that…
The suggestion is that…
… serves to…
The inclusion of… helps…
… elicits …
… grounds her argument in reality so that even skeptical readers won't be
able to dismiss it
… marks the extent of the problem.
By appealing to our sense of…, the author…
The author exploits the fact that… to…
Given that…, …
… proves to the reader that…
By showing that there is…, the author…
… contributes greatly to the argument's persuasive power by…
Analysis point:
So basically the analysis points are legit Satan’s lap dog because they are hard to get
Here are some tips to guarantee you some amazing success
Example of the thing mentioned above:
This is especially resonant as the author writes this in a climate filled with threats of global warming; the author targets the general American public when he writes this as the administration in power is responsible for opting out of Paris Climate Treaty, and the devastating consequences of such an act along with the rise of natural disasters can only make his argument more persuasive
2nd tip: point out flaws in the author’s argument- this is a hidden trick that always works
I am not talking trash and set on fire the author and the College Board, but you should mention some things regarding a weaker arg and how it could have been stronger so that means LIGHT ACADEMIC TRASHING
Here is an example :
Ok on one of the essays that I took. The guy used a statistic to prove that trees did help reduce temperature. However he used a study from his organization that projected increasing temperature Here is what I said about it: The author through his use of statistics aims to establish a logical choice in the reader's mind. By using numbers from the World Health Organization, he tries to usurp the authority that this organization derives and prove that his choice is not only supported by facts but by experts as well. The use of numbers is particularly significant as well since numbers are often regarded as facts, and thus for someone to argue back, a reader would have to either indict or bring up new evidence. While this use of statistics is effective in this context, the author's use of statistics fails due to a misplaced correlation. In this case, a man's passion reveals his weakness, as he uses a study from his own organization to prove his point, which leads us to a possible reevaluation of the purpose not as something to promote the general well being of urban areas, but as a case of self interest and promotion for his organization. Moreover, the basis of his argument rests upon the fact that temperatures decrease based upon the increase of trees. However throughout the argument, the author fails to establish the correlation of this foundation, and by such weakens his argument. He does, in fact, bring up his study, but his study is only in regards to an estimation of the benefice of planting trees and is based on a misplaced correlation where he assumes correlation.
3rd tip: use transitions and nice words
4th tip: Do you have a weaker paragraph?
5th tip: Always read after each paragraph- like reread- prevents mistakes, and if you need to add more you can!
6th tip: paragraph order
-Topic sentence
-Quote- embed it properly
-Explain effect of the quote on the audience
-Add your spices>>> SPACE or ACADEMIC TRASHING
-Finish with a nice little purpose that explains how it strengthens the argument
7th tip: Try to find a second device
How to practice:
Most people don’t have the time or energy to write an essay everyday
Also this didn’t belong anywhere but here it is:
don't skip a line, indent>>>
some people asked for vocab so here it is
https://blog.collegevine.com/the-50-best-vocab-words-for-the-act-essay/-- strong words
https://blog.prepscholar.com/sat-vocabulary-words- good words to know
https://www.oxford-royale.com/articles/words-phrases-good-essays/#aId=b0308864-2c59-4e78-ae70-668f431523a5 for transitions
https://www.oakland.edu/Assets/upload/docs/OUWC/Presentations&Workshops/Rhetorically-Accurate-Verbs.pdf>>>>> this is for your purpose mostly
https://www.sydney.edu.au/content/dam/students/documents/learning-resources/learning-centre/writing/vocabulary-for-essays.pdf >> this is all you really need honestly
Keep in mind, it is very hard to write and use fancy words in a timed write situation. Please learn the context or at least connotation of these words or else they sound forced. You also don't need fancy word for a good score if you use the sentence pattern you will be fine. The readers are looking for deep analysis if your analysis is trash even if you covered it up with fancy words, it is still trash and you won't earn points. Analysis first and vocab last.
Family sux (18,f?)
Okay so I'm not sure if I'm more trans masculine, trans, or just plain non binary. But i do know that I want to start presenting more masculine. My chest is one of the main things that bothers me. I really want to start binding and changing up my wardrobe. My wardrobe is already fairly androgynous, but i want to go more masculine than androgynous. My wardrobe isn't too much of a concern at the moment, it's just easing the dysphoria. My chest and curves are what bothers me the most. I recently cut my hair short and it was the most confident and comfortable I've ever felt temporarily. Still love the hair, just the excitement faded.
Anyways, I live with my parents. I'm 18, but they are connected to all my bank accounts and can see everything i purchase. I also am unable to drive, and my parents refuse to teach me. So i can't use cash to go out and buy something in person at a store. I also can't officially say anything, as i really do love my family, and I'm very close with even my extended family who i see every weekend (until covid happened), but if I get too carried away with this, they're going to confront me. They'll never let me talk to them again if they catch onto this. I can't live with that right now. I have one supportive cousin, but she's told me it's best to wait until i move out to do anything at all.
I would love to see a gender therapist for this. I'm already in therapy, but because of covid, i can only do zoom meetings rn. Which is fine, except my parents sit outside my door and listen. So i can't bring it up.
I'm nearly graduated from high school, but there's no other option for me education but community college unless i get a full ride scholarship. Which is 110% not happening with my grades. Which means no dorms.
I can't get a job as I'm pretty physical handicapped at the moment. Severe arthritis, and really bad anemia leaves me in constant pain and with no energy. I tried to get a job but the only thing I can find is fast food, which being on my feet left me in horrible pain. I'm also not sure I could handle a job with my mental state at the moment.
Basically does anyone have any advice for how the hell to even start presenting the way I want? Is there any hope for me until I can get out of my parents house? And then will i probably have to present female around my family?
Sorry for the long post. This is also a rant i suppose, but i do need advice
Tips on how to make friends of the opposite sex to you
So I’ve met a fair few people, male and female, who struggle to talk to the opposite sex, for many reasons. Whether you went to an all boys/all girls school, were brought up in a ‘traditional’ environment or just never really thought it was an option, this can be the case for plenty of people. My friends have always been about 50/50 male and female so I thought it might help a few of you if I shared some advice.
So you might be thinking, why make friends of the opposite sex? Sounds hard/boring/dangerous/awkward. Here are some reasons:
  1. More friends are better! Why limit yourself to ~50% of the population?
  2. It will make you a more interesting person. The more diverse viewpoints you interact with, the more you learn and the more comfortable you will be with people of all different sorts, which brings new experiences and all sorts of good stuff.
  3. People LOVE matchmaking. Find it hard to meet women? Your new team of (wingladies? idk) will have your back! And vice versa.
  4. The more time you spend around the opposite sex, the more comfortable you will be with them when you are forced to interact at work or other places.
  5. It makes you less likely to cheat! Wait whaaaat? Yup that’s right, if you have a bunch of friends of the opposite sex then it removes the mystique and a bunch of the attraction and also helps you appreciate your partner for more than just what’s in their pants.
  6. Did I mention more friends? More friends!
So, if you’re still with me, let’s get into the not so secret secrets. As you’re painfully aware, the opposite sex are different. They’re weird. They’re not like you. You have nothing in common. That makes it impossible to interact. But what you don’t realise is that you already have the skills to talk to them, you just don’t realise it. Let me give you an example... Say your boss’s boss has a colleague Sam who is very popular and well known for being both smart and friendly. You are placed next to Sam at the end of year dinner. Excellent! You’re super keen to chat with Sam, and make a good impression. However, when you start to talk together you discover that Sam is into mountain bikes and 13th century poetry. You know nothing about this stuff! Sam seems nice but is totally unlike you in personality and interests. Oh dear. However, you wouldn’t just give up and sit silently for the rest of the night, would you? You would speak to Sam respectfully and try to find some common ground and probably have a good time anyway. Let’s break this down into a few key points:
  1. Respect. Treat the opposite sex like you would someone of your grand boss’ level. Not obsequious, since they’re not going to harm you. Just normal, but with a level of respect (I’m assuming your work isn’t toxic, imagine a respectful workplace here). Imagine your best friend’s favourite aunt, that kind of stuff.
  2. Be willing to engage. Don’t shut down, go in with an open mind expecting it to be like making friends with people of your sex who have different interests to yours. It’s just like going out for a day with your best friend’s hiking club (insert relevant better analogy here).
  3. Look for common interests. Most people make things, be it crochet, food or woodworking. Talking about making STUFF one crafts person to another can be a good start. Also way more people play D&D than you think.
  4. Enjoy yourself. If you’re not clicking with a particular person you don’t have to meet them again for coffee next week. Try different people, they’ll all be really different I promise. ‘I’m not like other girls’ is a cliché because all girls are not like other girls. Find the people you get along with.
  5. Look after yourself. Humans can be toxic, male and female. Hang with people who build you up, not tear you down, and do the same to others.
Honestly, all the people of the opposite sex to you are really different. After all, you’re not like all the other boys/girls who were in your school with you, are you? There are men/women out there who are more like you than some people of your sex you’ve met, I 100% guarantee it. So get out there and meet them! Make some friends this weekend! Good luck and have fun :)
Note: if you have social anxiety this stuff isn’t going to work for you, you need to work on talking to any person at all first. This is advice more geared for reasonably confident people with friends all their own sex. Also I’m aware this is all binary gender framing, I’ve never met a non binary person who you couldn’t also make friends with by treating them with respect and enthusiasm, I trust you’re all smart enough to work out how to adapt and use this stuff as relevant.
Mom of a non binary child, looking for advice
I hope you don’t mind a cisgender invading your safe space, just not sure where else to turn for advice. I am an Old and when I was my child’s (AFAB) age, non binary was not a thing (at least as far as I knew, and I grew up in a very LGBT friendly environment). So since they have come out as non binary, it’s been a steep learning curve for me. They have been binding their chest by wearing multiple sports bras for a few months now. I was just wondering...would a commercially made binder be a better option? Safer or more comfortable or both? I had never heard of commercial binders before yesterday so didn’t know they were an option. I understand they can get a bit pricey but I’d be willing to invest in a couple if it’s the optimal way to bind. My child’s bra size is 32DD and even before they began to identify as gender fluid, they had a generally negative feeling about their chest size (lots of harassment from boys at school, hard to wear certain types of clothing, etc). Any advice would be most welcome.
Thanks peeps, and if this post is unwelcome in this space, please advise me (kindly) as to which sub I ought to put it in.
Edit to add: my child is 15
Where to start?
My 12 y/o (AFAB) is asking to start on HRT. They first expressed in kindergarten/first grade as being female but bisexual. They had classmates with non traditional family units, so were aware of the many forms that families can consist of. Starting around fourth or fifth grade, they stated that they were non-binary. At that point, they would tell me each day which gender identity was felt so that they were addressed appropriately. About 6 months ago, they shared that they were solely male. They have chosen a new name and request he/him pronouns, but that they are also comfortable with they/them. In the last 3-4 weeks, they have begun asking to start testosterone. This is where my question lies. I don’t know where to start looking into this. Do we just talk to their pediatrician, or is there a specific type of doctor we would see to discuss our options? My child has been diagnosed as ADHD, generalized anxiety, and major depression. They were seeing a therapist but felt it wasn’t helpful. Partly, because they don’t like talking about themselves. They did say that if therapy is required in order to start on HRT that they would be willing to go back. They have already gone through female puberty and it has definitely increased the dysphoria. They are not currently interested in gender confirming surgery, just HRT. This process for us has been very fluid and developing over the years. I want to be very supportive of my child in whatever stage they are going through. I also believe in them being fully informed of all the positive as well as negative effects they may experience with HRT before they start. Can anyone guide us through how to proceed? What type of doctor to talk to? Anything you wish you knew before starting HRT or what we can expect? They are also super hesitant to come out openly at school for fear of rejection from classmates. Is it possible to start HRT and still keep it private until they are ready to fully share with everyone? They are saying that they want to use testosterone patches. Obviously we will follow medical advice on which product they recommend. Thank you all for your response! I’m very excited to have this resource to help in our journey.
Non-binary question please help
Hi! I'm non-binary and my fiancee is a cis female. We are about to get married and part of that is filling out a worksheet.
Questions on the sheet are standard things like name, age, address, ect. But it also asks for gender, not sex or legal sex, it's asks for gender.
As a non-binary person I want to put that I'm non-binary but I don't know if that could cause us to get denied.
Any advice?
update: my marriage license now says non-binary on it and I'm extremely happy! The lady at the courthouse asked what gender I wanted on it and when I said non-binary and she said "I don't think that's an option" but another worker there looked over and said "yes it is" and there we go!
An excessively detailed guide on how to start shaving, and doing so discretely, based on my personal experience.
Hey dudes and dudettes, I'm an 18-year-old kinda non-binary but mostly just confused male and I recently started shaving my legs and didn't want my parents to know. I thought seeing as though there are always so many questions from people about shaving and doing stuff discretely that I'd go through EVERYTHING of note that I learnt/discovered, so that you can do it too! This is pretty excessively detailed, so I'd recommend reading over it a few times so you get a vibe for what to do and what not to do and then just do it whatever way you figure out to work for you. If anyone has questions, or any other tips they wanna add (or you just wanna point out a spelling mistake), feel free to leave a comment! If it's really personal feel free to DM me but don't DM me your dick or a request for pics, soz.
Stuff you'll NEED:
Stuff that you should really have but isn't essential:
A note
This probably shouldn't be the only thing you look at regarding how to shave. There's a whole bunch of stuff, like exfoliating and stuff like that, which I completely didn't do, which worked for me but might not for you. I'm not an expert, don't get mad at me if I say something technically not perfect. I'm trying to give practical advice to help you peeps out.
the initial clipping
If you're anything like me, your legs will be insanely hairy. You obviously can't just run a razor over hair as long as men's leg hair gets and expect it to shave anything, so you're first going to have to trim it. Girls will suggest you use scissors if your hair is too long, this is ridiculous advice, I think they just don't realise how god damn long men's leg hair is. Scissors work when you have neat little pricks, not when you have a small rainforest. You're gonna want to use something powered, like a beard trimmer, or hair clippers, or a circular saw, or I actually used a trimmer bit thing which is part of the electric razor I use on my face, and although it's small, it did the trick. You can work with what you have here. You're hopefully only going to need to do this bit once or twice, so don't worry too much about damaging the device. Depending on what you're using, you'll probably need to make sure your legs are sufficiently soaked with warm water first. I'm not quite sure if this is necessary at this point but I did it just in case, as the trimmer I used is pretty exposed, so it was cutting pretty close. If you're using something like a hair clipper with a guide on then you probably don't need to do this bit wet but it's better safe than sorry. The point of shaving wet is that it softens your hair slightly and opens your pores and some other things I forget, but if you shave real close while dry then you could get razor burn and similar ailments, which as I'll explain later are a pain in the butt (especially if that's we're you're shaving gotem). Now if you're using something as exposed as the trimmer I used then make sure you don't press too hard. The thing to remember is that electric shavers, and in fact even manual razors if used correctly, are fucking sharp, and they're going to cut whatever comes around, regardless of how much force you put into it. You might need to go over the same bit a few times, but pressing harder isn't going to help you, instead it'll leave behind slightly inflamed red marks for days, which don't hurt that much but they're obviously not good, and can probably get infected or something. You won't really feel when you give yourself one of these, and you'll only notice them come up a few minutes later, so just be careful. Once you're finished, I recommend moisturising just for good measure.
Now, when you're done and you've dried off by patting your legs dry (do not scrub them, pat them, this is how you will always dry your legs from now on), there will be a lot of hair to clean up. Like so much fucking hair. There'll be hair on the floor and the walls and the shower screen and fucking everywhere. To clean up the bulk of it will take like ten minutes on its own, but if like me you're a bit paranoid and don't want your parents to find out, I would say it'd take like 30 minutes or more, so I'd make sure you have about an hour of time to clean up. Also, something which I didn't consider until after doing it is that running a hot shower will leave condensation on the mirror and everything and make it obvious that you showered, so while it's not that conspicuous, you might wanna also have that hour buffer to let that all go away so that they don't pick up on the fact that you're having a shower whenever you're alone (or in my case going against my normal schedule of having a shower at night). You can also wipe the bathroom mirror or whatevs with a towel if you're worried but make sure it's not a towel you mopped your hair up with like the one my idiot ass used.
Anyway, after you've trimmed, you'll probably (read: definitely) have missed a few spots. It's hard to see if you've missed a bit when you're dealing with so much hair and it's all wet and sticking to your body. I would dry off and wait a day or so, checking your legs out for missed spots, then go again. Eventually you'll have prickly cactus legs but they're manageable, and it's a base that you can use a razor with.
If you have limited alone time and you don't have any discrete way of shaving (e.g. by using a manual non-electric razor in your normal showers) then you can leave your legs just trimmed as they are for a while (a week and a bit, I would think) before you go back in the danger zone and do the next step, so feel free to take a break here.
actually shaving
Oh hell yeah we're up to actually shaving. You'll need any razor. Literally any. Men's, women's, manual, electric, whatever, it'll work great. I personally would recommend going for something not powered which therefore doesn't make noise, as you can then shave in your normal showers without outing yourself. Also as I mentioned before, many women prefer to use men's razors so don't worry. If you want, just use the thing you use on your face, cause that's the least suspicious thing to do. I actually went a bit cheeky and used my Mum's at first before quickly buying my own Gillette Fusion5 ProGlide (men's razor so wasn't very intimidating to buy), which seems to do pretty darn well.
Anyway so get in a warm shower. You're meant to leave it for like 15 minutes to get an absolutely perfect shave, but you can get perfect over time, for now just make sure you're decently warm before you start shaving. If you have it, you should put shaving cream on your legs now (or conditioner apparently works pretty well too so that's actually what I used initially EDIT:, but I found that it wasn't quite enough and I still ended up with the red spots of doom, so maybe try something a bit better). It doesn't matter too much seeing as though you're already wet and warm, but it'll make your razor's job easier and depending on what you use it'll make your job easier by showing you where you've already done. It'll also reduce the risk of irritating your pores and blah blah.
Start at your ankles and work going against the grain in short, 6cmish (2 and a bit inches I think) strokes, applying basically no pressure. If you get a huge amount of irritation after this then try going with the grain next time, but going against it is obviously more convenient to do standing in the shower, and will give a closer shave. I recommend working in a circle around the circumference of your leg and then moving up a bit but do whatever works. Over time you'll develop a less robotic technique, but this is a great way to start. I know some girls that do big strokes all the way from their ankles up to their thighs and while that might work with more consistently shaved hair, you probably can't do it on your first shave. Definitely try to overlap slightly, like as you go up the leg start your strokes lower than where you're up to so that half of each stroke is covering the area you've already shaved or something like that. It's pretty hard to see hairs when you're in a shower and bending over awkwardly to reach your legs so try and keep track. I find that feeling for prickly areas is the best way to find where you've missed. Your knees and ankles will be the easiest areas to cut yourself on so watch out with them. Don't forget to do the back of your legs, especially the inner of your knee. Other easy spots to miss include your knees, inner thighs, and if you're a bit lean like myself, the valley between the bone and back muscle on the inside edge of your shins (hard to explain but you'll get it if you get it). There's nothing wrong with taking it slow so take as long as you need. Once you've done both legs, apply moisturiser (if you wanna be extra good then apply one which you can put on dry after you've gotten out of the shower). EDIT: there's no such thing as too much moisturiser, and if you start having issues like red dots and shit then not moisturising properly is a decent culprit. END EDIT. When you dry your legs remember to just pat them down.
After shaving you'll find a few things. One is that you probably will have gotten a bit too eager and cut yourself in a few places. It won't hurt, and you probably won't notice until a while after you've done it or even not until you're out of the shower, but holy shit some areas will bleed like mad. I got a cut on my knee that just pissed blood for like 45 minutes. Now, you could bandaid these areas, and that's not a bad idea, but I was worried that would lead to scabbing, so I lightly patted the blood off of them every now and again. You'll adjust to the ideal force and cutting angle over time, so don't worry, cuts will become rare. For me it took about three shaves to get to something decent, the first time I over-did it and cut myself a heap, the second time I under-did it and ended up doing effectively nothing, and the third time I got it just about right, and then I upgraded razor and cut myself again oops. I think it's one of those things where your brain adjusts over time without you even thinking about it.
Anyway, as well as cutting yourself, you'll likely find that you've missed a bunch of areas. For me I found that some areas, like on my shins and around my ankles, there were like about half a dozen scattered hairs which the razor missed in an otherwise smooth area. These I found easy to just pluck out with a pair of tweezers. This sounds like it'd be painful, but weirdly I found that especially after a warm shower, it didn't really hurt at all, and I could actually remove hairs by pulling really slowly and they came out with almost no pain. I also used this on the few little hairs that have grown on my feet. This might be different for your hair though so YMMV. There'll be other areas where there are a lot of quite long hairs, and for these areas you can choose whether you cut them with scissors or whatever or run over them again with whatever powered thing you used for the initial shave.
Finally, if you're like me, you won't get as happy about having shaved legs as you'd think you would. I found that while I didn't get super gushy about them after the initial few minutes, I found that looking at them made me go "yep those are my legs" instead of making me feel uncomfortable or as though they were ugly or didn't belong to me. I definitely don't regret it, it's just I'm not ecstatically euphoric, just no longer dysphoric (which I guess counts as being euphoric but whatever). I also found that it made me want more (or less, in terms of hair). I spent a touch over half an hour manually tending to the hair on my feet using the tweezers and scissors of a Swiss Army Knife, but then I looked at myself naked and realised that I also wanted to shave my butt and dick hair, which is a separate exercise I haven't gotten to yet (although I'm probably just going to repeat a similar process to what I suggested here albeit a bit more gingerly around my privates). The fact is though that I feel better about myself, and that's great. The big bit for me is done; the part of my bottom half that people will see now represents me in the way that I want it to. But now it's more about how I want to see myself, and that's kind of comforting in a way, cause it shows I'm not faking this shit for attention or anything.
Anyway yeah, now just shave your legs with a razor every now and then and you'll be good! Don't shave every day, at absolute most shave every second day. Try and leave it for a few days though if you can. I definitely shaved every second day for a little bit when I first started just so I could hone in on the little missed spots and stuff like that, but once you get going don't feel like you have to have ultra smooth legs every second of every day. Even if you go around wearing shorts/a skirt every day people probably won't notice two or three days of stubble unless they get creepily close for strangers. And if they're your friends and they're complaining about three day stubble then you should probably try and get better friends especially considering how big of a deal it is to do this stuff in the first place as men. Just remember that you're looking way closer than anyone else is going to, so if you can see lots of tiny little black stubbly dots then that doesn't mean other people are going to. It doesn't always need to be as close a shave as your face cause people get way closer to your face than your legs. I think some people on this sub need to realise that they don't need to be 100% perfect with everything to look 100% perfect.
Anyway yeah that's my immensely detailed guide to shaving your legs as a man living at home. Hope it helps some people.
EDIT:
If you get red spots of badness, here are some suggestions. Also if you wanna be real careful, do these things regardless, at worst it'll be a better shave. - start using shaving cream if you aren't already - use better moisturiser if you're using something a bit dodge for moisturising. - exfoliate your legs before shaving them, this means get a loofah/facewasher and shove some soap on and then scrub your legs.
And if that still doesn't work then here are some more inconvenient methods that might work - moisturise your legs regularly - shave with the grain instead of against the grain (this won't be as close a shave but it's better for avoiding ingrown hairs)
In the case you do get the horrible rednesses, moisturise moisturise moisturise. It'll make it sting less, it'll make it look better, and it'll reduce the potential damage. I recommend doing it after drying off at the end of an unsuccesful shave in the shower but any time is a good time.
A further edit:
You might be wondering about other options, like waxing, using an epilator, and hair removal cream. While these are all great options which could get you a far better shave which lasts longer and is easier to do, there are a couple of problems to consider. First off, none of the methods I just listed are easy to do in secret. By contrast, not only is owning a razor is a perfectly normal thing for a man, you probably already have everything you need in your house, and even if you are hiding everything to do with it, it won't take up much space or be particularly conspicuous, because even the creams associated with shaving are used for a vast variety of non-gendered purposes. Also, shaving with a manual razor is basically silent in the shower, and you can easily ditch half-way through a shave. Shaving is also relatively speaking very quick, it obviously will add a bit of time to your showers, but it's not like an hour long process. Another good thing about shaving is that it's basically the default, and most women either shave or have shaved in the past, so you can easily find advice online or ask your girl friends if you need a hand. It's also fairly affordable, even if it isn't the cheapest option out there.
You have options, definitely, but I personally think that shaving is the most realistic hair removal option to do discretely, and that arguably outweighs the difficulty and occasional frustration that comes with it.
UPDATE (Child wrote letter to us (parents) about being transgender)
(For reasons explained below, I will be referring to my son with male pronouns)
So, a couple of days ago I posted a question about my son writing a letter about wanting "to get surgery to become a girl." (His words). I received a ton of feedback so thank you for your excellent advice. I also discussed the matter with a few friends of mine active in the LGBTQ community. The note was discovered by my wife before he actually gave it to us to read. Upon advice from others, I gave him a day or so to work up the courage to tell us before I would say anything. The other night, we talked and he told me everything. He cried and told me his reasons for wanting to transition. It's a rather long story, but in short, he is kind of a weird little nerdy kid. (I say this affectionately since I was the same way.) He is bullied at school a lot and as he articulated to me, he says all the boys pick on him and in his observations the girls don't get picked on. His cousin, my niece, who he is very close with, suggested the surgery option after watching the video of a youtuber who transitioned. (He couldn't remember the name.) He is the only boy cousin in his generation and thus can feel left out at times, as well. (First boy born in the wider family in over 20 years.)
I told him I love him and support him no matter what. If he wants to transition, I will be there with him. He had never heard the words "trans." I told him a bit about what I had learned. I asked him if he wanted to start using she/her pronouns, he said no. I asked if he wanted me to get him some new clothes, no again. We talked at length. I said this will not be a quick process. It will involve a lot of doctors and therapy, but no matter what if that is the direction he wants to go in, I will respect that.
So, at least for the time being I am going to default to his stated preference for pronouns. Is he actually trans? Not sure. Is he non-binary? Is he just struggling with his identity? Not sure. After consulting with a few people and professionals, at the very least he needs to see a therapist to sort this out. If it turns out that is the path to take, we'll support him. However, at this time it is inconclusive. As a side note, I didn't share it with him but my wife and I discussed it later. As I am sure y'all know, girls get picked on just as much if not more. I would expect it would be even more so for a child transitioning. So... there is a lot to unpack there certainly.
Again, big THANK YOU to everyone who answered my question with advice and guidance. I will probably continue to lurk around to educate myself. I really appreciate the guidance. I am not sure what the future holds, but thank you all.
Rank 18 Challenger Mech One Trick Guide 10.16
Edit - Its been a few days since I posted so I wont be checking in to answer new questions here. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to be through my stream. This guide should still be relevant to patch 10.17 but I'd recommend QuickSilver > GA due to Titans resolve nerfs.
Hello, I'm Atornyo and I first hit challenger in NA as a mech one-trick last patch and achieved as high as rank 18 in patch 10.16. I really enjoy mech as I mostly played reroll mech to hit diamond last set and think it is the most interesting composition in the game. I will be referring to mech pilots with a focus on Viktor carry as Viktor Mech.
My lolchess: https://lolchess.gg/profile/na/atornyo
Ideal Viktor Mech Level 8: https://lolchess.gg/buildeset3.5?deck=f6e3df00de7c11ea85825783e5dd3235 (legendaries can replace units with similar traits if you find a 2 star version of them or find a legendary before 2 starring the unit they replace: Lulu>Cass gp 1star > ziggs if you have an extra defensive item to give gp Ekko>shaco)
Level 9:https://lolchess.gg/buildeset3.5?deck=1c8af8c0de7d11ea8f93e91782b06499
Items that can be used in Mech Viktor:
For the Mech -
Titan’s Resolve - If your mech has one of Hand of Justice or Guardian Angel or both I recommend building this item, without either of these items you won’t see much value from Titan’s Resolve until you have a level 5 or 6 mech which means you have 2 star annie rumble and fizz. This item has the potential to be the single strongest item that your mech can use and is worth playing for every game. The downside to this item is that there is zero value in slamming the item early game as it will never hit 50 stacks until you have a mech online. The only time you are looking to potentially not have this item on your mech is if there are many people contesting (a 4+ mech lobby) the reason for this is because this item greatly increases in value the higher level your mech is. Once it hits 50 stacks your mech will 1v9 especially when coupled with a Hand of Justice or Guardian Angel.
Hand of Justice - This item is so good worth slamming every game as it works well on early game carries and is really solid on mech.
Guardian Angel - Solid item but ONLY place this on your mech if you are certain there will be a Hand of Justice or a Titan’s Resolve with it. Works well with Titan’s because your mech doesn’t lose its Titan’s stacks after its first death and can slap around the enemy team after reviving. Works well with Hand of Justice as it can heal a significant amount of HP post mortem. This item also works really well with rumble as he will oftentimes cast after coming out of the mech and his spell doesn’t go away while reviving.
Quicksilver - This item is BiS for mech IF you are unable to complete the trifecta mentioned above. In lobbies with many zephyrs this item can result in insane value, however, with optimal scouting you can sacrifice Ziggs and Cass to the Zephyr gods. The reason I believe this item isn’t as godly as many others make it out to be is the fact that it does absolutely nothing in a number of matchups other than provide 20% dodge. The problem with this item is that it is NOT slammable until you have a mech online.
Bramble Vest - One of the strongest items to slam early game. If you take an armor off the starting carousel and are blessed enough to find another by 2-1 you are building this item.
TrapClaw - This item is mostly just a 20% dodge stat boost. This item isn’t very slammable early personally, only build if I feel I don’t have any other options.
Shroud of Stillness - This item is a 20% dodge stat boost that can turn a fight with optimal positioning. If you build this item you need to scout EVERY round. Relatively slammable early but not on the same tier as bramble.
ZZ’rot - You are building this item because you want to win streak early. Neat thing with this item is that you get two voidlings over the course of the fight.
Warmog’s Armor - Probably the single strongest early game item in the game, give a protector this item and go afk until stage 4.
Ionic Spark - Another very slamable item, if you have a rod and a cloak at any point before krugs it is worth slamming as this item will save you infinite HP.
Thieve’s Gloves - This item is a bait on mech. In the past I would play Thief’s Gloves mech as a transition unit while I pivot to a non mech composition. Nowadays I only play mech so don’t recommend giving the mech this item. Not a bad shaco item and once you replace shaco with Ekko he loves it.
Itemizing Viktor - Viktor wants a morellonomicon in order to nuke the enemy team’s healing potential along with blue buff or Spear of shojin as viktor should be able to kill the backline in 2-3 spells.
If you're considering playing mech here is what you should look to do in each stage:
Stage 1: look to grab Armor>Tear>Crit Glove on first carousel units holding these specific items such as armor Malphite/Illaoi or tear Ziggs can be free tickets to winstreaking early. After carousel I try to hold brawlers rebels and infiltrators as I believe it is the strongest opener for mech, however if it is clear that a stronger board is available, such as a 2 star poppy or jarvan while you only have 1 star Illaoi/Malphite, it is worth pivoting to that. On the round that Kayn appears (1-4) I will prelevel which means I buy experience in order to achieve a level 4 shop on 2-1. This is very important as a unit like rumble/shaco/neeko with a belt can win streak the entirety of stage 2. I try to hold on to any Annie I find as I like to hold one whenever possible but it is worth selling her in order to pick up any brawlerebel/infiltrator or to ensure that you can pre level.
Stage 2: I attempt to win streak through stage 2 every single game, Viktor Mech and Mech infiltrators are not very item dependent and you can switch between the two depending on what items the game gives you. If you have any of Bramble Vest, Hand of Justice, Guardian Angel, Ionic Spark, Warmogs,blue buff, morellonomicon, or ZZ'rot Portal it is best to slam the item as the Mech can hold any of those items other than bluebuff and morellonomicon and those last 2 items are vital for viktor, Illaoi is a great holder for Mech items and Ziggs/ahri are great holders for Viktor items. On 2-1 play whatever your strongest board is as with any non-hyperroll compositions. On 2-3 before the stage 2 carousel I will prelevel in order to get a level 5 shop on 2-5 post carousel, this is extremely strong for Mech Pilot compositions as it gives you the opportunity to hit a full Mech on stage 2 or other strong early game units like rumble gnar wukong and fizz. In the case that you are on a 2 or 3 loss streak after the stage 2 carousel it is best to attempt a full loss streak in order to maximize early gold, this is the ONLY time that I would ever consider attempting to lose a round. If you are running infiltrators in your early game composition it is extra important to scout EVERY round as the difference between an infiltrator hitting a Ziggs or a 2 star frontliner is winning or losing a fight.
Stage 3: This is where a lot of decision making enters the game. If I am winstreaking with a streak of 3 or greater and I will have more than 10 gold after leveling I will level on 3-1. otherwise I will level on 3-2. If I have fizz and rumble by 3-2 and am level 6 I am willing to roll down to 10gold in order to hit an annie. If you roll down this early into the game it is vital that you do not tunnel only on units that go in your final composition, you are not rolling solely to hit a Mech you are rolling to maintain win streak this means that you will look to complete any pairs or to add unit upgrades to your current board. If you roll down and do not upgrade your board at all you will be in a very bad place so it is important to keep a very open mind on what can be thrown in to improve your composition. If I don't roll down on 3-2 I usually do not roll at all unless I am taking a large amount of damage every round in which case it can be a good idea to level to 7 post stage 3 carousel (3-5) and roll some gold to stabilize. If you are rolling it is important to not roll below 10 in stage 3 unless you have a great reason to, such as winstreaking and holding 4-6 pairs while knowing there are opponents that can beat you if you don't hit those upgrades.
What to do if you hit early Mech: Mech in stage 3 can be played in many different ways. Most of the time you will sell your frontline and be looking to play Mech + whatever your strongest backliners are which are usually the level 2 units you already had. Ideally you want to have a ziggs and infiltrator or be running 4 sorcs + Mech but it is not vital in stage 3.
Stage 4: This is where the decision between Viktor Mech and Mech infiltrators is made. If you are bleeding out and approaching death <40hp 4-1 it is worth leveling to 7 and rolling down to stabilize. Which means you are playing the level 8 board minus ziggs if by some miracle you hit aurelion sol feel free to play zed/ziggs/asol instead of the mystic units. However, in the majority of games you will level to 8 on 4-3 and roll for your board.
The 4-3 rolldown (Viktor Mech) - While rolling you are looking to hit this board https://lolchess.gg/buildeset3.5?deck=f6e3df00de7c11ea85825783e5dd3235 it is discussed earlier when to replace units with legendaries. Also I value cass and Karma over Soraka as before the mech dies other units tend to take very little to 0 damage. If you run into a GP Mercenary upgrade in this roll down it is only worth purchasing double strike as they are so expensive. You can stop rolling once you hit the units in the composition and have a level 6 mech (2 star annie rumble and fizz), a 2 star legendary or 2 star Viktor. If you hit any of those requirements with more than 20 gold and are somewhat healthy you can usually go to level 9 later in the game in order to increase your chances at first place. If you hit a 2 star asol and do not have blue buff Asol can replace Viktor at levels 8 and 9.
If you hit it is very likely that you will win streak through stage 4 and into stage 5.
Stage 5: If you rolled down at level 7 on 4-1 you are leveling to 8 and rolling on 5-1 in a last ditch effort to survive. This rolldown is the same as the standard 4-3 one. If you were able to stop rolling early and have hoarded a large amount of gold, look to go level 9. Only go level 9 if you have at least 30 gold to roll or have more than 15 gold and already hold 1 or more legendary pairs. If you are about to die feel free to roll on 8 in order to complete vital 2 stars which are any mech pilot unit +viktor and shaco. The winconditions for Mech Viktor are good mech items +perfect item 2 star Viktor or Level 9 with 2 star legendaries. The optimal level 9 composition looks like this https://lolchess.gg/buildeset3.5?deck=1c8af8c0de7d11ea8f93e91782b06499 with the option to replace Viktor with urgot 2 and giving the bluebuff to urgot and the morellos to Asol. While it is situational it is almost always better to run a 2 star unit over a 1 star legendary. In the case that you were fortunate enough to find an infiltrator spatula play it on either viktor or gangplank and instead of running Asol play 4 infiltrator level 9: https://lolchess.gg/buildeset3.5?deck=7aa7b960de8511ea9ce08d2f4408daad
If you hit either of these level 9 boards with 2 star units it is a 1st unless an opponent has a 3 star 4 cost unit or out positions you really badly.
General advice when playing Mech Viktor:
Differences between Galaxies
Dwarf Planet - Mech is so busted on this galaxy, I have seen Mech compositions hold hands 1-5 multiple times in challenger elo games. Look for titans resolve as if it procs your Mech will hit the backline. Infiltrators are weaker on this map so keep that in mind when building early game boards. Gangplank is also OMEGABUSTED on this galaxy.
Neekoverse - I just wanted to thank riot for removing this Galaxy
Superdense - I tend to run 4 infiltrator instead of ziggs at level 8. Also if winstreaking you might roll more in stage 3 as any round you win it is likely you're doing an extra 2 damage which puts a lot of pressure on a lobby.
Trade Sector - Greatly dislike this galaxy for Mech but never miss the chance to level if you can afford it while winstreaking. Going level 7 right after stage 3 carousel can be the difference between hitting an early legendary or hitting important mech units.
Treasure Trove - Not a great galaxy for Mech as you have 4 units in your composition that do not benefit greatly from items (Mystic units and annie/fizz) Also Mech doesn't benefit too greatly by having perfect items so the benefit that other compositions get is much greater.
Galactic Armory - Great for pushing early winstreaks. Always look to slam 2 full items before any pvp rounds even begin.
Binary Star - Look to take glove or tear on the first carousel. NEED to win streak as mech isn't as strong later in the game. Not as bad for mech as people make it seem but you usually need 2 dodge items (QSS, HOJ, Trapclaw, and shroud of stillness) in order to make your mech survive versus the 4 cyber players in the lobby. Need perfect Viktor items as another issue mech has in this galaxy is the fact that mystic units along with other mech units can't utilize items well.
Plunder Planet - Always push levels and try to bully other players around. Anytime you can prevent another player from killing any of your units you are denying them 2-3 gold which is a huge early game. Most of the time you will level to 8 on 4-1 and be 9 in late stage 4 or early stage 5. Can also decide to roll down on 3-5 after stage 5 carousel at level 7 in order to get as much gold as possible off the galaxy and prevent other players from killing units. Everyone spikes really hard in stage 4 on this galaxy.
Salvage world - I'm still unsure of this galaxy, I have only played 5 games on this galaxy but in 2 of them I opened with a redbuff ludens lucian with blaster buff that felt really strong. Not as important to run an early game composition that can utilize mech items well.
I'm sure I missed some stuff within this guide and will try to answer any questions in the comments over the next few days.
